The use of triple collocation approach to merge satellite- and model-based terrestrial water storage for flood potential analysis

چکیده

Terrestrial water storage anomaly (TWSA) retrieved from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission can be used as a good indicator of flood potential, but it is limited to regional analysis due coarse resolution (?300 km). This study proposed an optimal least square merging scheme spatially downscale GRACE-based TWSA via integrating with model-based estimates on finer (0.125°) associated uncertainty estimates. products estimated GRACE, advanced Land Surface Model (LSM), reanalysis data were in process. Error uncertainties each input sets merged product calculated based triple collocation approach. The was subsequently compute potential index results compared against measured river discharge historical records. Results showed that provides better representation spatial variability at sub-regional scale relative along improved uncertainties. Merged also capability capturing events occurred local scales when

Assimilation of GRACE Terrestrial Water Storage Observations into a Land Surface Model for the Assessment of Regional Flood Potential

We evaluate performance of the Catchment Land Surface Model (CLSM) under flood conditions after the assimilation of observations of the terrestrial water storage anomaly (TWSA) from NASA’s Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE). Assimilation offers three key benefits for the viability of GRACE observations to operational applications: (1) near-real time analysis; (2) a downscaling of G...

Assessing Terrestrial Water Storage and Flood Potential Using GRACE Data in the Yangtze River Basin, China

Floods have caused tremendous economic, societal and ecological losses in the Yangtze River Basin (YRB) of China. To reduce the impact of these disasters, it is important to understand the variables affecting the hydrological state of the basin. In this study, we used Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellite data, flood potential index (FPI), precipitation data (Tropical Rainfa...
